Digital Print. Design with patterns drawn from metalwork and manuscript art of early medieval Ireland.

Digital print using archival quality inks on Satin Photo paper
Image size 177 mm x 305 mm

The visual traditions of iron age and early medieval Ireland which are drawn upon in this image display a remarkable longevity and are still admired today. This image was made at a time when I was working on Branwen Daughter of Llyr, a medieval tale from Wales, which is closely associated with Ireland. Two brothers from the tale, Nisien and Efnisien, are presented as opposites: while one would bring about harmony, the other would cause conflict.
